The Document on the left next to his throne bears the letters ALEF, which form the beginning of the Lamentations of Jeremiah in the Old Testament. 'From 'Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Up Close.'
The Book of Genesis, chapter 1, tells us that God created the number One, Himself, as a name on day One... He Borah (created it), He Ruach ( moved it as a spirit), He Omered it (spoke it into existence), He saw it (YHWH Yireh) affirmed it as being Good and Desirable, He named it (Korah).
But it was not until the third day that he (YHWH YHWH) created it as a set, a real object, really existing in our world. He Omered it (spoke it into existence as a set then), Asehed (turned it, spun it righteously, made it correctly), He Yireh (saw it), He brought it out (tozhayed it) as a "seed of a seed", saw that it was good (Tov) existing as a recursively defined function that, like Himself, generates itself.
And, it wasn't until the fourth day and fifth day that, using the Sun and Moon as timepieces, He put it, placed it (Yetayn et), saw that it was good (Tov), as a "real number" existing not only in eternity but our world's everyday time... then let it afloat to swarm (Yesheer'tzu) inside the consciousness of His river of eternal life and fly in the heavens above us, seeing that so it was good. and Blessed (Barech) it inside of all of these creatures as a means to use, the idea of it, in order to increase.
And, it wasn't until the sixth day that He placed inside of His own consciousness, His own individuality or "monad", and the consciousness and "monads" of all his angelic friends at the beginning of the creation of the World as an image (tzelem) and likeness (domot) to use in order to be Himself (YHWH I AM THAT I AM, YHWH I AM WHO I AM) as Hope the expectation of Good, and Faith, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, and saw that thus created it was good (Tov).

Had a beautiful Delta
airlines flight from Jackson, MS to Atlanta to JFK airport, NYC. Took a taxi
from the airport to the Flatiron Hotel 9 W. 28th St., which is near
the Musuem of Mathematics I visited in October, 2016 before the last
Presidental election, to buy some graduate level mathematics and also beginning math puzzle books, especially
those published by my friends the editors of the math books of the Princeton U. Press.
Some Old Testament Bible study with, the Seven Haftarahs of Consolations, in the Book of Isaiah, and the Torah teachings from the beginning of the last book of the Torah, Deuteronomy, where Saint Moses explains the Shema again to us.
Many thanks and long time
blessings to John Surrat, Religion editor for the Vicksburg Evening Post, and
my Port City Kiwanis friend who did a full one-page article on me and took a
good picture of me in my home to go along with it for the July 22,2017 edition
of the Post. The full article is posted at http://www.ourprayergroupnews.blogspot.com.
For those lucky few of you,
about 40, who received free copies of our 2017 YHWH School of Christianity
prayer calendar, I unfortunately, this year, neglected to put that many Bible
verses on it. We will begin studying the 7 haftorahs of consolations in the end of
the year, beginning of next Jewish prayer liturgy this year. This ancient Torah
based liturgy, which we know Jesus followed, since some of the verses of it
have made their way into the New Testament, begins with the seven weeks of haftarahs of consolation that occur before Rosh Hashanah and the High Holy Days this year : passages from Parashas Va’et-chanan (Moses, whose name has the same gematria as El Shaddai, God of the Strength of the Mountains ordains the Shema):,
YHWH is our God, and YHWH alone...
or alternatively,
YHWH our God is a unique YHWH,
or
YHWH is our God,
YHWH is unique, in His extraordinariness...
or
YHWH is our God,
one indivisible YHWH...
depending on how we define the Number One
or the Number One as it is already defined.

"The priest and prophet Ezekiel lived in the early sixth century BC. Michelangelo depicts him as an old man who was engrossed in his reading but has now suddenly turned around to look behind him. Ezekiel's gaze is focused on the hands of the small accompanying figure in the background, which are stretching up towards the heavens. They refer to the source of God's message. Gestures play a central role in a large number of the ceiling frescoes painted by Michelangelo. Ezekiel's open right hand, for example, can also be understood as a gesture of both amazement and readiness to receive the message." From 'Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, Up Close'
and continuing with Moses He talks to us in the first Torah section in Deuteronomy using two short discourse forms, He has told us before he died, "Va-et-chanan (515 gematria)I have pleaded with you with 515 prayers" These 515 prayer pleadings or supplications should be enough. But, the haftorah before from Isaiah chapter 1 tells us that God does not desire our prayers as sacrifices, but tells us to "wash yourselves; cleanse yourselves, put your evil doings away from My sight. Cease to do evil".
If Moses is a Saint living in heaven on earth today, and I believe He is, He would probably pray with God more contemplatively, using denials of his own ideas of what is evil and good in the face of God's judgement, and affirmations that bless us all for happiness and well-being.
He would probably tell you that the Name of God YHWH expresses itself in us as Truth in Three ways:
1) When God is One, His Truth is One, YHWH Christ,
2) When God is Two, His Truth is Two, YHWH Christ,
3) When God is Three, His Truth You..,

along with Isaiah chapter 49, verse 14 to chapter 51, verse 3,
then 3) Parashas R'ei ("See this day I have put before you with these rules and teachings the two-fold blessing and curse"
Isaiah, chapter 54, verse 11 to chapter 55,verse 5,

then, 6) Ki Tavo "When you enter the land the Lord, your God is giving you.", along with Isaiah chapter 60. verses 1-22,
then, 7) Nitzavim "You stand, this day, before the Lord your God" along with Isaiah, chapter 61, verse 10 to chapter 63, verse 9.

Healing and Miracles come
from Faith.
“Faith comes from hearing,
and hearing from the Word of God.” St. Paul, Book of Romans
Hearing the Word of God comes
from listening to It or Him or Her, the Word of God, in prayer, meditating and realizing how
it is affecting us in our own prayer lives as it is preached to us in
Churches, and by reading the Bible on
our own, listening our own personal Lord and Saviour, God’s Son, through His
Power and through the Power of the Mercy of His Father God who gives us
spiritual strength to meditate on it and allows us to be attentive to it over
long periods of time in order to defeat our until Christ came, indeterminably
interconnected original sinful natures and continue to hear it as it continues
to express Itself through the Immeasurable and Eternal Acts of Loving Kindness,
Blessedness, Compassion inward and outward to each of us through each other and
as a result, certainly, still dwelling in Him or Her inside of us all forever.

Flatiron hotel and Flatiron building are about the same distance east from the
20 St. pier areas. This whole area is
now called the Flatiron district and has a lot of refurbished buildings for
artists and similar creative type people and also I discovered around the
corner from the hotel a vipassana insight meditation center with some not quite
as high and “opened-up” top-floor window viewing.
Joel, one of the oldest prophets in the Old Testament. Michelangelo shows him in a fully concentrated pose, with his attention focused on the writing on the parchment school in his hands. noel heralded a divine punishment that would be inflicted on the sinful Israelites in the form of an army. Michelangelo used a large amount of detail when painting the prophet's facial expression, with Joel's puckered brows and wrinkled forehead bearing reference to his sorrowful prophecy.
Speaking of first class art,
as I write this there is a wondelful exhibit of enlarged paintings of
Michelangelo which decorate the interior of the Sistine Chapel at the bottom
floor of an adjacent building to the World Trade. What an enlightened and helpful
healing thing for our friends the Pope and his Cardinals at the Vatican to
do…releasing this exhibit to the visitors and people of NYC to study and
meditate on there.
Another prophet, who lived in the 8th Century BC, the first in our trilogy of Isaiah, Jeremiah 7th Century, Ezekiel 6th Century. Is Isaiah, whose name also means, Jeshua, or God saves, foretold the coming of and the sacrificial death of Jesus or Joshua. In this painting he has placed the fingers of his right hand between the pages of his book, as if he wants to carry on reading shortly. His attention, however, is focused on the small angelic figure standing behind him. In these depictions of prophet, these figures are considered to be conveyors of God's message.

Short intermediate discourse on the nature of God:
Thoughts in quotes are the Rev. Thich Nhat Hanh, the other thoughts are Mother's and mine.
Mary to Andrew: "How are you doing Andrew",
Andrew to Mary "I would say I am good, but do you agree with me[ do you get along with me]"?
Mary to Andrew: she thinks a while then says, "I would agree"
Andrew to Mary "Then that makes two of us saying that. But, how are you?"
Mary to Andrew "I am good, do you agree?" Andrew "Yes, I do."
Pope Francis, Saint Francis, entered the conversation at this point:
Saint Andrew you are pretty smart, I did not figure that out, that we don't have to ask for forgiveness until I was in my 60s.
Saint Francis, I did not figure it out, Jesus Christ explained it to me. I am not Jesus Christ, and we need to be careful, you and I not confusing ourself with Him, even though we love him and believe in him and trust in him for help. Otherwise, we, you and I might end up on the cross again, and this is not necessary.
Saint Mary to Saint Andrew: "As a liberal Protestant do you take communion from Catholics?"
Saint Andrew to Saint Mary; "Mary, I not only take it, I give it...in prayers, in dreams, on the street talking to whoever stops me to talk, or I run into, in Churches, in heaven and on earth." Amen
The Lord is your shepherd, he leads you into green pastures,
This interesting recent dialogue between Saints, between Saint Andrew in me, Jesus, and St. Mary in me and others, has some very important amateur theological teachings if you think about it. Any thoughts about it? You can go to our Meetup.com Christian Jewish healers site [enter 39180 into the search box] and you will be able to enter in with us in the dialogue. You can play the role of St. Mary, Jesus, or St. Andrew. Be comfortable in what you say but be careful. Words can have immense consequences…especially when we try our best, with God’s help, to speak good ones than help others and ourselves.

The river beds modeled in this expert system were in the Corps of Engineers Seattle Northwest District. It doesn't have any rules, I don't think about the effect of supercritical flow rates in the river during short term flash flood events or large scale river flooding to the channel. And, the report generated by the sets of rules and questions to be asked to them doesn't give any precise numerical answers to exactly how big the river bars and bed clasts are that form. It gives give the best answer to whether they are increasing or decreasing in size. From Penn Station in NYC I
took the train to Prineton Junction and then
a taxi to the Nassau Inn in downtown Princeton, that is what little of a
town downtown Princeton is. There is a nice sandwich shop in the place I ran into Rev. Thich Nhat Hanh in 1973 and spent about 40 minutes of silent meditation
with just me and him. This was before he had written about 40 books explaining
Buddhism better to us Christians.
Notes on the Rev. Thich Nhat
Hanh’s notes on “How to Love”
“Our Heart is like a River.”
We need to let God place an open door that cannot be shut in it.
What are the four elements of
True Love?
1)
Through its
loving kindness (cf. St. Paul epistle to the Corinthians)
True Love
has depth and is expansive. “The essence of loving kindness is being able to
offer happiness.”
2)
Through its
compassion Love has breath and strength (see
http://www.ourprayergroup.blogspot.com
49 days from Passover to Shavuous
of Jewish Christin[sic] prayer discussion about great concepts associated with God).
“Compassion is the capacity to understand suffering in oneself and another.”
3)
Through its joy,
Love lasts and is good (ibid). “When you know how to offer joy it nourishes you
and the other person.”
4)
Through its
equanimity Love is Truthful, as it has to be to victorious. And, when it is
victorious with God’s help it is a glorious thing that dwells in us forever as
us knowing God’s Name as a crown of glory at the mountiantop of our souls. “The
fourth element of true love is equanimity. We can also call it inclusiveness or
non-discrimination.”
“Body and Mind are not two
separate entites. What happens in the body has an effect on the mind, and vice
versia.”
“Good will is not enough.
Good intentions are not enough, you have to be artful.”
Dear prayer friends your home is the same home as mine. We are after the same ever-after, God’s Kingdom dwelling inside and outside of us here on this same earth on which we were both born. To live here you must first “get saved”, having faith in and being Jesus Christ is God’s way of us “getting saved”.
Dear prayer friends your home is the same home as mine. We are after the same ever-after, God’s Kingdom dwelling inside and outside of us here on this same earth on which we were both born. To live here you must first “get saved”, having faith in and being Jesus Christ is God’s way of us “getting saved”.
One way to understand how
Jesus Christ is the Logos, the connection between God’s body and God’s mind
dwelling in us is to know how our backward goal oriented purposeful faithful
thinking can be chained together
rationally with mental forward object oriented rational thought. I have written
a computer mathematics paper on this for the Corps of Engineers that shows how
to order the about 100 rules of an river repair expert system logically. It is
posted on my curriculum vita part of the yhwhschofchrist.org website.
“A deep thirst. Sometimes we
feel empty a vacuum, a great lack of something. We don’t know the cause. It is
very vague.”
We are all together Eternal
souls swimming in a river of God’s Eternal Life. We all have a deep thirst,
unconsciously, to swim in that River.
“Opening the Door. Once you
know how to come home to yourself, then you can open your home to other
people., because you have something to give.”
The One Buddha who is God’s
Son, Christ Jesus, like Jesus, is a door, an open door which cannot be shut
(cf. Gospel of John and Book of Revelation). Instead of putting stone or metal
statues of Him in a room with a closed door to meditate inside of, why not open
the door to the meditation room and meditate on Him dwelling in the people
coming into the meditation room as they enter the door?
“Nourishing our love with
edible food. The first source of nourishment is edible food. The second source
is sensory food, sensory impressions, what we consume with our eye and ears.
The third source of nourshment is volition. This is your desire, your hope,
your aspirations. The fourth source of nourishment is collective and individual
consciousness. The fifth source is the four immeasurable parts of our divine minds,
loving kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity…already discussed.”
“Meditation. Meditation
consists of generating three kinds of energy…mindfulness, concentration, and
insight…These three kinds of energies give us the power to generate happiness
and take care of our suffering.”
We can also nourish it, love,
through meditation on the Word of God, which is also our food. Our faith in
God’s promises contained in his Words in the Bible help us love ourselves and
each other more, Eternally.
“Love
as an offering, and the greatest gift. To love is not to possess the other
person or to consume all their attention or love. To love is to offer the other
person joy and love as a balm for their sufferings.
One
of the greatest gifts we can offer another person is to embody nonattachment
and non fear.”
But,
how do these thoughts apply if the other person is God?
Since
God is Love Itself He does not need Love in our prayers as an offering. He or
She is already Love. God does not want our prayers to be offerings. The only
people who believe that don’t know who He or She is. He or She is there to
serve us, and to accept our offerings, but when we Love others as God Loves
us, then we will want to give each other
this type of offering, Love.
The
greatest gift of Love to another is to offer that other person your self in
order to create new self through both of you.
Short intermediate discourse on the nature of God:
God does not need love, for He is love. He does not need
sacrifices, for He is the sacrifice. This is why He gave His Son as a sacrifice
to us, so we would not have to be the sacrifice and He could be the Love. What He wants from is not love, not sacrifice, but faith in
Him being love and being the sacrifice, from us God is both knowable and unknowable. He is first unknowable,
then He is knowable. He is both you and not you. First He is not you, then He is
you. He is both like and unlike you. First He is unlike you, then
He is like you. He is both explainable and unexplainable. First He is
unexplainable outside of you, then He is explainable to you, then He is
explainable again as Love Truth inside of you. God is both seen and unseen, heard and unheard. First He is
unheard and unseen outside of you, then He is heard and seen there. Then He is
seen and heard again. Inside of you. But, as for whether His nature is Truth, He is not both
Truth and untruth, but only Truth. Because He is an end in a beginning and a beginning in an
end, He is the First and the Last, The Truth forever and forever-after. Jesus Christ, Saint Mary, Saint Francis, please say Amen!

of the network search programs I wrote to classify the 3-dim and 4-dim

things. Something I plan to write a paper on as a sequel to my thesis if I ever
am able to understand enough about all the side mathematics.
Series of contemplative prayer questions & answers to St.
Mary and Jesus about how you get saved in the YHWH School of Christianity
follows
Rosh Hashanah 2017-18. God begins being Himself and many people we love, have known in our past, but ends up, continues, as One... you & I.
Q & A Andrew to St. Mary: "How do you get saved
as per YHWH School of Christianity?" answer by St. Mary :"We have a
process".
- Your Salvation is not something a minister shouldn't talk with you about unless you go to or attend his Church, it's bigger than that.
- Being saved, Knowing Salvation, if it's something that happens inside independent of outside events is not something you don't talk about.
Q & A Andrew & Mary "I like to
insert my Self in the Process. May I?" answer by St. Mary "Yes, But,
do you know the first step?

Mary 3rd step is that Jesus is the way out of this Sin if you have the faith to
believe in Him as your Lord and Savior.
Andrew to Mary, Mary are you aware of the different translations of the Jesus' reference to the Deuteronomy 8-9 verse Torah portion Ekev, teaching of Moses from God, second Sabbath of consolation before Rosh Hashanah saying "Man does not live, i.e. is saved by Bread alone, but that man may live on anything that the LORD decrees"
Yes, Andrew I am aware of those verses from the Torah, but since I am already saved by my faith in God's Word itself, Himself, as Jesus taught I do not need that teaching.
Andrew to Mary, be careful Mary, it might help you understand how to be both the Jew and a Christian, that I believe you are.

Mary: "Andrew, what is Christian Judaism about?" "It is about keeping faith with your actions to others, not just faith with your beliefs."
It is interesting to compare these Christian teachings with Jewish teachings on whether and when we need to ask for forgiveness to God in our prayers. See my people's prayer book: volume 6 Tachanan and Concluding prayers by Rabbi Lawrence Hoffman and my discussion with Vanderbilt Divinity School Rabbi Amy Jill -Levine in the 2014 discussion of Rosh Hashanah praying in this blog. Jewish Tachanunan prayers are normally inserted in the service in Mondays and Thursdays and consist of
a seven-paragraph V'Hu Rachel, "He is Merciful"
affirming God's 1) mercy,
2)salvation,
3)that He listens, hears us,
4) is compassionate toward us,
5) forgives us,
6) guarantee of acceptance of penance
7) is gracious toward us.
then while bowing our heads or prostrating ourselves
Psalm 6 of David
then the "Guardian of Israel or Shomer Israel'
then the "We do not know what to do [without your help] Conclusion"
And, the key Jewish prayer, the half- or full-Kaddish [see our detailed discussion and explanation elsewhere in the website's prayer's section of this wonderfully helpful eternally grounded inner soul's prayer] is required to be said before and after this section of the prayers.
In the Catholic tradition of course, we go one to one to a human priest, confess, He listens, then suggests prayers and penance.
Understanding the differences in theology that requires these different actions, is key, of course, to understanding how we can all worship God a little differently, but together in all of this.

In order for nothing to be impossible with God, Luke 1:37, He must store up the seed of past-possibles in us so they can still be growing.
- Saint Andrew to Saint Mary, "I AM the seed of the seed of the Christ that dwells in God's Tree of Life Living in you."
Let's hear that love tweet together again and again, Mary:
"Breathe, Mary, you and I are alive forever, eternally in our only Son Christ Jesus, Jesus Christ. May He sing His song of life, forevermore, forever after, eternally with us bringing Joy and Peace to us, the World and Himself." - Saint Andrew to Saint Mary, "I am the seed of God's Son, The Christ that dwellw in His Tree of Life Living in you."

At this point, after saying these ancient blessings, St. Peter entered the conversation:
Andrew's brother, Saint Peter: "How are you doing Andrew, well?" Andrew: "I want to say good, Peter, if you will agree with me that will be two of us saying it."
Saint Peter:" I agree with you, Andrew. " Andrew:"Peter, you never did like to say that much."
At this point the archangel Gabriel entered into the conservation. Saint Peter had already represented the archangel Ariel in it.
Gabriel: "Andrew, Dearest Self, how can I serve you." Andrew to Gabriel: "Dearest Self, go down to earth from heaven, from heaven to earth, and tell Saint Mary the good news that she is about to have another Saintly human angelic child with me." May all the people and angels say Amen. here
Gabriel: "Mr. Andrew may I ask you a question. Yes, Gabriel. Is this new child going to be the same Jesus Christ you and Mary already had, because you know I believe that it is ordained that you and Mary can only have one child?"
Andrew: "He is going to be the same Jesus Christ, just reborn again. Is that alright Gabriel?"
Gabriel: "Yes", Andrew: "Well go do it." Gabriel "OK"

Revisited the Institute for
Advanced Study, IAS, at Princeton NJ.
I had to go to U.S. Army
Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Belvoir, VA that summer so I just drove
from there up to Princeton to spend some time attending the lectures at the IAS
and studying books in the library.
Figure 12
THE PROPHET JONAH
I spent a happy 3 or 4 months
there, without a formal invitation, in 1973 studying for my doctorate and
attending a few lectures. I just drove my Pontiac Tempest cross country, rented
a small apartment in an upper room about a half a block from the Princeton
railroad station. I lived on Stockton St., about 1/2 a block from Mercer St., where Dr. Albert Einstein’s telescope was set up
in his yard. From there you can walk about a mile to reach Olden Lane, turn left and walk another 1/2 mile to reach Einstein Dr. That street turns into the Institute and its grounds. While there I studied mostly in the Princeton library. Talking
to Professor Serre, a friend of my thesis advisor Dr. Satake at Berkeley I got
the idea for my thesis on “Voronoi Reducdtion of Quadratic Forms.” Professor
Conway and Milnor from Princeton had visited Berkeley earlier and given some
fascinating talks about reducing quadratic forms related to metrics on spaces of manifolds in order to classify the different manifolds visually by thinking of
them as deformations of spaces of lattice crystals.
Another connection with
Professor Einstein and my past whose earlier house in Switzerland I visited 3
years ago on a Cal Berkeley trip came up recently. Dr. Einstein’s Son Hans Albert (The German word Hans is a shortened form of the name Johannes, hence John Albert would be the English translation of his name) Albert who was a professor of river engineering at Cal Berkeley worked in the
early 1950s with some of my friends and mentors in the Corps of Engineering
Geotechnical Res. Lab. (Dr. Turnbull, Warren Grabau, Dr. Ahvlin), on design
improvements to the crucial flood control structures in LA that try to prevent
the Mississippi River from rerouting itself out of its historic channel into
the Atchafalaya Basin . Dr. Hans Albert was an expert in river flow sediment equations and the design of devices to measure the data needed for these equations (see "The Bed Load Function for Sediment Transportation in Open Channel Flows) Jame F. Barnett, a retired Dept. of MS Archives
official has just published a book, “Beyond Control” that has a fascinating
discussion of his work and the historical context of the many previous attempts
to do this bed-sediment flow modeling around some different reaches of the lower Mississippi River channel. The Channel has been rerouting itself and going its own way for a long time now. At least since the 18th century humans have been trying to understand how this happens. Up to Dr. Hans Einstein, these river engineering pioneers did
not use much of a mathematical model. Their work has since been improved with the 1-dimensional HEC math model of the river which the U. of Calif. at Davis now manages and also the 3-dimensional models the ERDC's Hydraulic Research Laboratory has created. These 3-dimensionsal models have now incorporated Hans Einsteins's equations in them. The gigantic flood of 2011 proved that the dams built to model the rerouting in the Atchafalaya Basin cutoff areas didn't take adequate account of then estimates of the huge bed-load sediment scouring around the control structures. Several more scaled physical models have been built since then to test out different possible better solutions. But, I am not aware of any generally considered solution to how to prevent a further catastrophe event here. Considering the immense importance of this someone might want to add network
theory to the mathematical differential equations model, if they haven’t
already done it. They might even want to study my papers on how to use logic
programming in order to compute throughputs and maximal flow and minimal cost
solutions in networks that I wrote to solve some problems in U.S. Army
wargaming situations in Europe, the
Middle East, and Korea.

Chart above from "Fundamental of Fluvial Geomorphology" by Ro Charlton, displays some of the different ways, channel width and depth, configuration of gravel beds in streams, meander wavelength, reach gradient, and profile concavity and gradient affect the time formation of various component in river channels.
For instance if Q is flow discharge, Qb is bedlam supply, d is depth, w is width, lamda is meander wavelength, s is channel slope, S is sinuuosity we might have several rules in the system like
RULE 1 Q+ => w+ d+
RULE 2 Q-=> w- d-

But, it does make use of everything the Corps knows from past experience about the general nature of how they form and disappear.Implementing Mixed Chaining in a

Some notes from talks at the Annual MS River Commission Low
Water Inspection TripPresentations Vicksburg, MS August
11,2017 :
According to MS Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, the
State of MS currently supports the Corps of Engineers doing a re-design study
on the Old River AtchalayaCut-off Control dams and structures which affect the
percentage of river discharge and flow southward toward the city New Orleans. A
2016 study considered the economic affects to farm land and agricultural
production of rerouting a 65/45,50/50, 60/40, 70/30 split. Some of the effects, depending on
which mix is chosen would be addition flooding of agricultural lands, salt
water intrusion back up channel affecting fish and river animals. According to a State statute passed in 1963 and based on
hydrological studies of the river lands at the time, the Corps was encouraged
to work on the problem considering the use of the Bonnet-Carre Spillway, but
not cutting off the flow of the river toward New Orleans.
According to another speaker, Mr. Williams the backwater
areas north of Vicksburg are currently being flooded in periods of high water
by up to 200,000 acres. If, as his group is proposing more flow was directed
southward during periods of low water in the river that would ameliorate the
discharge problem toward the flood stage in Vicksburg causing the backwater in
the Vicksburg District. In the 2011 flood of the Vicksburg District the water
overtopped the levee by 4”. However, he granted
the point of the Commission President that doing this could cause a sediment
deposition problem south of the cut-off, either on the MS or the Atchalaya
which would then limit discharge there during high water periods.
According to another speaker, height of the river stages in
the floods, the length of time and highs and lows of maximum discharge rates of
the MS river has increased significantly over the last 50 years: From 1940-1972 high water marks went up 3’, from 1973-2107
4’. However, the average discharge from the Old River structures allowed by the
Corps in the last 3 years has only been 20% of capacity.

history goes back to the Roman times when some wandering theoretical Celt and
Scottish mathematicans and theologicans migrated up from their travels in the Middle Eastern Levant back into

time into Italy, Greece, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and were the first to try

This question arises when we consider
how we can develop a better understanding of the interrelations of science and
faith. At the turn of the last century work on the area of the
foundations of mathematical analysis and the beginnings of the development of
mathematical logic increased. This happened along with the invention of digital
computers. And, a new area of mathematical area of research called set theory
was created in order to understand what "a real number" in Calculus
means. Leopold Kronecker made his famous statement, "God created the
integers and all else is the work of man." But, how did God create the
integers? Plato's dialogue Parmenides is perhaps his hardest to
understand work and the most important attempt in the classical era to try
understand different ways we can answer this question. What is a set? What is
an empty set (basically this is determined logically when you know what an
element in a set is and what a set is)? This talk will give a short history of
some of the progress mathematicians and logicians have made trying to answer
these questions since the beginning of the last century. We have shown, that
except for some notable gaps, how "real numbers (rational, algebraic,
transcendental)", and likewise various other "complex and ideal
numbers" can all be constructed logically from the positive integers. The
possibility of the "notable gaps" come from the proof of the
independence of the continuum hypothesis.
And, here is the abstract of my talk last February
about the philosophy of the previous talk.

How Did Plato Define the Number One in The Republic?
•
In his book, "Plato's Republic a Dialogue in 16
Chapters", Dr. Alain Badiou, a current French philosopher, proposes a new
way of defining the "Number One". This way uses a mapping from
"Being" to "Event". In it, he claims that "The
Republic" is actually Plato's playbook for a Communist society, using this
definition as its base. But, was this really what Plato said or wanted to say?
This would mean Plato believes that the philosophy of mathematics is a part of
science and its philosophy. It would mean that then questions of what is
"Justice", "Truth", "Goodness" is in political
science can be related to what "Oneness" is in political science and
the other various sciences? Dr. Badiou says in his books "Being and
Event" and "Number and Numbers" that he does not subscribe to a
normative theory of Truth. And, his arguments are based on his complicated
mathematical set theory and ontology of what is "real" in a
mathematics and a nature in which the Number One is actually, not a set, but a
process. The present day concept of a mapping or function is something Plato
clearly wasn't able to understand in his time. I will relate this topic to
several earlier talks on "How Do We Define the Number One" that I
gave at previous annual conventions of the MS Academy.
The text of both talks are posted in the “About Us ”
part of my website at http://www.yhwhschofchrist.org.
I have been interested in this topic every since my
Senior undergraduate advisor at Vanderbilt, Dr. Peter Neumann, visiting professor
from Oxford University gave an inspiring and fascinating presentation to us at
the Vanderbilt mathematics department and I decided to write my senior thesis
there on “Boolean-Valued Logic Proofs of the Continuum Hypothesis.
A mathematical manifold is a
generalization of a space of constant curvature, like ordinary Euclidean space,
on which the calculus needed to compute the mathematical physics of motion and
paths can be patched together in pieces that together make up a more
complicated spatial object, sometimes with holes of nothingness,
non-space-time-matter inside and outside of it. The objects and events that
occur in the part of the space-time-matter that is the manifold occur
continuously and this is part of what allows us to do variational calculus on
it.

Some interesting philosophical questions arise when we try to understand the nature of mathematics? Is mathematics about reality? Are numbers reality? Are they Truth? When I went to undergraduate school at Vanderbilt and studied philosophy the opinions of the logical positivists was that mathematics is not about reality. In order to know what we are talking about here we have to explain that we can understand reality as something that "kicks back" and can be empirically tested or observed. The famous mathematicians and philosopher Bertrand Russell and G.H. Hardy claimed that mathematics was pure and beautiful but not related to applied science in any important way that could be demonstrated. I never quite saw how they could believe this, considering all the key scientific and computing results that come out of logic, mathematical logic, and what we call analysis, geometry, calculus as it relates to applied mathematics.
Statistics comes into this study when we ask what are the nature of the numbers we are counting up in it. In order for statistical results to have any significance the numbers we collect must be able to "sample" some underlying reality. And, if the reality of what we are trying to understand is to have any "meaning" or "truth" associated with it, what we "sample" must have an identifiable underlying probability distribution associated with it, and it must talk back to us about itself in a meaningful way when we ask it quesitons. The CAL Berkeley logician, philosopher, statistician, mathematician Alfred Tarski had a "Theory of Truth" in which "truth", what Dr. Tarski called "Mathematical or Scientific Truth", is the "instantiation" or substitution of values of sentential variables, using what we call in computer science, a logic programming unification algorithm. And, the logical formulas or predicate function use facts from an underlying model which contains the facts being, either object oriented data structures or logic programming recursive predicate functions... the "reality".
Integers, rational numbers, real numbers, various types of algebraic numbers can also be defined using these recursive predicates of logic programming or the object oriented data structure ones of ordinary computer programming languages. Now comes the really interesting part. Is there a way to "sample" numbers in order to determine the nature of their "truth", that is the nature of the underlying probability distribution of their digits in a decimal, or other base representation? My fellow Army Officer and Cal Berkeley Math. Dept. 1970s Alumni Theodore Hill has written an interesting autobiography in which he describes his search to find a way to do this using some theorems he has proved about "Benford's Law". Benford's Law arises in sampling a lot of different types of real data, including the integers themselves, but not all types. It has a lot of practical implications, like providing a way for the IRS to determine if you are fabricating data on your tax return. His book has been recently published by the American Mathematical Society and is titled "Pushing Limits, from West Point to Berkeley and; Beyond." It is a fascinating read, especially for anyone trying to be both in the Army and a Mathematician. He basically got out of the Army after Vietnam and became a full-time teacher of mathematics. While I decided not to go into College teaching full-time but work for the Government and the Army about the same time period.
But, I did write a couple of papers for the Army Computing Conferences on how to sample the statistics of digital maps using a Monte Carlo algorithm approach. How do you determine the number of samples to take in order to get a good level of confidence in the results. Basically, you have to assume the spatial data statistics come from a probability distribution we call Poisson then do a series of what is called "likelihood ratio tests" on the data from the sampled histograms of the results of repeating the tests a lot of times. When I wrote the papers I couldn't come up with any philosophical justification of why to use the Poisson distribution other than it was the one other researchers in the field had been using when I read their papers. There might be a way to use Dr. Hill's theorem's on how "Benford's Law" can help you test the results you have gotten with risk analysis and propagation of errors against the actual measured vehicle test data as opposed to the theoretical predictions from the differential equations simulation we have in the Army off-road mobility models. The goal would be to determine how good a job the mobility models do in simulating the vehicle movement across actual terrain, which usually has a fractal character versus the artificial terrain the models used, as being composed of Fourier combinations of sines and cosines, usually not as discrete and fractal as the actual surfaces off-road vehicles go over. I have posted copies of my papers on my website if anyone is interested in thinking about this with me.

Back to deformations of spaces of crystal lattices and the application to physics:
In the early 1970s when I was
in graduate school the hot topic of mathematical research was how to classify
all the possiblilites of existence of these different types of curved and
non-curved manifolds using matrix linear algebra of their spatial and tangent
space symmetries, called Lie Algebras and Lie Groups*. Einstein himself, before
he died was working on how to using the principles of Lie Groups and Lie
Algebras the calculus of variations on manifolds in order to link up the five
fundamental force fields of physics known at the time or into One Unified Field
Theory on One complicated higher dimensional manifold. The highest dimension of such a manifold that
can be constructed, de-singularizated, compactified or compressed down into a differential manifold where the integrals of the Lagrangian physics converge and all thought about consistently mathematically (if you don't use categories) is E8 of 8 dimensions in the Coxeter symmetries of its "root basis vectors". But, the dimension of
its possible auto-morphisms being groups of symmetries of the group itself and of its representations in spaces of manifolds is
much higher and the number of possibilities to test experimentally in order to
verify the existence of massive particles of such a theory is enormous. Thus
physcists and mathematicians came up with many different theories of how
reality (what kicks back if you try to measure and understand it, something
like a stone which you can stub you toe on) actually exists in a new thing
called a “multiverse”. Of course, Dr. Einstein would not accept such a
philosophical possibility since his name itself means “One Stone” or “One
Reality” in German. And, in his many writings he pointed out that he preferred physical theories that were simple and not as complex as many of those nowadays with all the endless concatenated references to literature.
It wasn’t until rather
recently in the 1990s and first decade after the millennium, that some Italian,
French, English mathematical physicists developed the ideas of two of Dr.
Einstein’s greatest students, Feynman and Wheeler in order to allow us to think
about reality as occurring as not only on a continuous higher dimensional
manifold, but in a discrete , non-continuous network of quantum spin foam**.
Now, in order to compute what used to be called continuous renormalizable infinite
Feynman path integrals we do discrete finite network optimization search
calculations. This is a much more satisfying philosophical approach for those
who don’t like the idea of somewhat arbitrarily subtracting out infinities in
order to make the calculations come out right. But what type of object of form
and maybe substance do we call the place where these new objects occur and are
analyzed? “Superspace” according to Dr. Wheeler and the discovery and
verification of existence a couple of years ago of the so-called “God
Particle”, the Higgs Boson provides the means for its genesis out of
nothingness. The mathematical and logical theory for the existence of this type
of object which oversees space-time-matter by existing as a “Category” of
Thought outside of it, has already been developed by Dr. Saunders Maclane of
Harvard U. and the eccentric but friendly French mathematian Alexander Grothendieck, friend
of Dr. Serre and also Dr. Andrew Weil in France who gave a talk to the
mathematics department at Vanderbilt when I was an undergraduate there and who
along with Dr. Lang, and Dr. Satake was one of the 7 or attendees at my short
Phd thesis presentation and defense, along with a very vague difficult to
understand talk I gave about how to use it to desingularize the Siegel Variety and
understand the Kuga Fiber Varieties and associated Zeta Functions in 1974 at
Berkeley. I didn’t answer the few short questions they asked very well but
somehow the thesis was approved. To this day I continue to thank them for this
kind act.

The IAS grounds are a
wondelful area about a mile or so east of where Einstein used to live next to
the main Princeton campus. There is a lake with forests and a walking trail,
just next to the main building a large tree to sit under and meditate.
For those mathematicians
reading this blogs which includes some of my thoughts on this important topic,
what is reality, you might also want to read my review of the book Galileo by
J.L. Heibron and include the blog posting of photos and thoughts during and
after the 2015 Cal Alumni trip to Tuscany, Italy. It contains some thoughtful
insights and encouragement that now is the time for us mathematicians to try
and come up with a better definition of motion on and off manifolds using
Grothedieck’s theory’s of categories.

Simons Hall in the background, where many of the mathematical talks are given. Dr. Einstein's spirit is very much alive in this place. There is a stone bench to lay back on and meditate on the blue and white sky on the side of the lake where I took this photo. On it are engraved his words, " All our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike and yet it is the most precious thing we have." If you consider religion and knowledge of our self and God dwelling together Eternally peacefully in happiness as something also that we can know and possess I would agree with your assessment about Science's importance, Albert.

Review of the book: “Lincoln
in the Bardo” by George Saunders
By Andrew W. Harrell
This well researched and
tersely written book of episodic dialgoues of Bardo souls in a cemetery
discusses what might have happened to Lincoln’s Son Willie in the intermediate
period between which he died and was sent off to heaven, which I and President
Abe believe he was.

From the Funeral
Sermon by Dr. Gurley on February 24, 1862
Sad and solemn
is the occasion that brings us here to-day. A dark shadow of affliction has
suddenly fallen upon this habitation, and upon the hearts of its inmates. The
news thereof has already gone forth to the extremities of the country.
That departure
was a sore bereavement to parents and brothers; but while they weep, they also
rejoice in the confidence that their loss is the unspeakable and eternal gain
of the departed; for they believe, as well they may, that he has gone to Him
who said: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them
not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven;" and that now, with kindred
spirits, and with a departed brother, whom he never saw on earth, he beholds
the glory and sings the praises of the Redeemer. Blessed be God.
"There is a world
above
Where sorrow is unknown;
A long eternity of love,
Formed for the good alone;
And faith beholds the dying here
Translated to that glorious sphere."
Where sorrow is unknown;
A long eternity of love,
Formed for the good alone;
And faith beholds the dying here
Translated to that glorious sphere."
It is well for
us, and very comforting, on such an occasion as this, to get a clear and a
scriptural view of the providence of God.
His kingdom
ruleth over all. All those events which in anywise affect our condition and
happiness are in his hands, and at his disposal. Disease and death are his
messengers; they go forth at his bidding, and their fearful work is limited or
extended, according to the good pleasure of His will.
Not a sparrow
falls to the ground without His direction; much less any one of the human
family, for we are of more value than many sparrows.
We may be sure,
-- therefore, bereaved parents, and all the children of sorrow may be sure, --
that their affliction has not come forth of the dust, nor has their trouble
sprung out of the ground.
It is the
well-ordered procedure of their Father and their God.
A mysterious
dealing they may consider it, but still it is His dealing; and
while they mourn He is saying to them, as the Lord Jesus once said to his
Disciples when they were perplexed by his conduct, "What I do ye know not
now, but ye shall know hereafter." What we need in the hour of trial, and
what we shoud seek by earnest prayer, is confidence in Him who
sees the end from the beginning and doeth all things well.
"Heaven but tries
our virtues by affliction;
And oft the cloud which wraps the present hour
Serves but to brighten all our future days."
And oft the cloud which wraps the present hour
Serves but to brighten all our future days."
Most people assume that if
our souls go to Purgatory things are controlled by God at this point. But, what
if in Purgatory we still have free will and its like what the Buddhist’s call
Bardo?
What if it is… still “a meaningless tale told by an idiot” as
Faulkner postulated about all of life in order to write his famous novel about
life in the Oxford MS area of the American South?
To understand more about what
the last paragraph means ione would have to understand what “The Meaning of
Life” is. So you might want to read further in this review and also the
excellent short philosophic book, “The
Meaning of Life: A Very Short Introduction
by Terry Eagleton. This review assumes the reader is a little more
religious than Mr. Eagleton indicates that he is in his book, but it is still a
very good introduction to the philosophic questions that underlie the religious
ones we will discuss.
I would also recommend the
reader study the book “Beauty, A Very Short Introduction” by Roger
Scruton. How do meaning and beauty
combine in order for our souls to be glorified eternally in heaven? A good
question for people living in the Bardo?
In the Bardo, the Buddhists
believe there is no meaning inside of meaning. They believe only in the
beatification of souls in the sense the philosopher Kant taught that meaning is
in our lives interconnectness with each other’s. But, Christians, and most
Jews, Hindu’s, Muslims that our lives have a higher purpose in the sense of our
souls being glorified and interconnected to us all and to a higher power and
that our minds reason backwards through faith in this higher power of God in
order to reason Heaven on Earth, as for example, the glory of God resurrecting
itself and manifesting itself Eternally inside of each of our souls and all of
them forever.
Beauty in Heaven on Earth is
interconnected to love when it is a reflection not only of the elements making
up an object but of an individual person who has desires dwelling with us in
order to himself or herself and God dwelling together better.
For example, when we look at
a beautiful woman’s mouth, if we are a man, or a handsome mans’, if we are a
women, and eyes we not only see the physical structure of their objectness, but
also the beautiful words, thoughts, and images she or he is experiencing as
they dwell inside of her or his mind and which relate to ours making them more
desirable, especiallyif they are purposeful and have goals related to ours.
She or he requires our
mindful attention, focus, and penetrating understanding and thinking in order
to realize our desires with her as they modify themselves somewhat because of
us and become more of her or his desires too in this process.
These desires can quickly
develop into deeply felt emotions about what else we can share together
happily.
As we get to know each other
better, we find, with God’s blessings and help, kindness, compassion, joy,
equanimity involving itself more in the process in order that the joint shared
experience can last longer.
Figure 21
Birdbath sitting in the
household gardens of the Dumbarton Oaks mansion which dwells near the Oak Hill
Cemetery in Georgetown, DC
If we are really blessed by
God inside of the two of us a fourth person can be produced… In fact a whole
new branch of God’ Biblical Tree of Eternal Life can happen by a Son or daughter,
like Lincoln’s son Willie being produced. That is if God keep helping us in the
process, and we accept and help with the process ourselves.
How can we help?
One key way is by having
faith in God, or in philosophical terminology believing that there is and our
lives here on earth have such a thing as a particular kind of meaning and
purpose: understanding The Meaning of Meaning dwelling inside of us telling us
what meaning means. Comparatively few people re ach this MOUNTAINTOP
EXPERIENCE, get this far in their philosophies of religion and have MOUNTAINTOP
KNOWLEDGE of God in order to understand this. The Bible tells us, for instance,
St. Paul, Jesus, and most of the Apostles and Saints did and still are carrying
it around in their souls. But
thankfully, even if we don’t reach this goal, we can through faith in Him or
Her let God reach it for us and then understand it for us. This can really work
out well some times. It is called the Salvation, Redemption, Justification,
Sanctification of our souls, Eternally.

fireworks display happening around the Washington monument on the Washington DC
Mall. I and God were there, on that day, in that place, at that time.
Coincidently, the monument is 555 feet high and I used to live in the DC area
working for the HQ Dept. of Army for 7 or 8 years and living in a townhouse at
555 Monet Dr., Rockville, MD.
What if our intellects still
have free will and go on experiencing things in another plane of existence, a
kind of astral cemetery world until we either decide if we have had enough or
someone else or ourselves or God decides we need to move on.
Figure 23

building in the cemetery, 3001 R St. NW Wash. DC. At the top of the
administration building there is a replica of the famous Independence Hall
Philadelphia Liberty Bell. When it rings
but not tolls, presumably the souls in the cemetery have a chance to rise from
the dead.
The subconscious, as well as
conscious minds of all the characters are more or less floating around in each
other’s “river of consciousness” of
fifty seven well spaced out well spaced together and well-threaded together
chapters of different characters memories, regrets, uncontrolled mental desires
and addictions along with few conclusions.
I had to read and reread this
book three times until I understood most of the connected and disconnected
record of happenings in it.
A lot of people when reading this book will
just be interested in it as entertainment for entertainment’s sake.
The simple plot in this sense
is how long will Willie hang around in the cemetery? But, the book has more
philosophical and theological depth than that.
Figure 24
Entrance to the jogging trail
that goes all the way up Rock Creek Park toward Bestheda and Rockville MD for
miles behind the cemetery.
Willie, Lincoln’s son,
according to the “shades” that hang around the cemetery “Loves one’s life more
than necessary inorder that he will stay in purgatory or the Bardo as long as
possible. You might ask, “Why are these shades staying here permanently?” Is the answer that the person Saunders calls
the “architect” of the plan , God, has condemned them to it?
Or, is the
author referring back to his theme of “free will” here? His many different
characters seem to believe in the power of their “group consciousness" to effect
movement, even transmigration of souls, in and out of the Bardo. And, God is only
mentioned infrequently by the author.
Figure 25
Rock Creek itself, from some
distance walking up the trail.
The story is told through a
“stream of consciousness” viewpoint. It is told as the reader goes forward in
time with the situation until it finally resolves itself. Then, while the main
character continues with the situation he has found himself in, listening
to everybody else’s predicament, it continues until he and his father, President Lincoln, is given a chance to talk about things with him. It continues at least in order to have him
listen to what his father says. And, it continues until he finally resolves to “move forward” in the
eternal life of his soul. In Chapter 91 there is a fascinating discussion of
what Saunders calls a“matter lightening blooming”as Willie’s soul gets
transfigured into its future. Can we infer from this that it is not being
wished by God or the group consciousness “eternal rest” but more future travels
in an ever after life?
Figure 26
A small square pavilion rest
stop inside of the beautiful open area in a park to the west of the cemetery in
Georgetown that souls which are resurrected to heaven on earth, can take
advantage of in order to rest and contemplate before they decide where in heaven
on earth they are going forward in time to from there.
There is one shortcoming of
the author’s well thought analysis of the situation that perhaps stems from his
own personal beliefs. The book does not even hint that Willie’s soul, if it
does escape Purgatory into a bright future, has a destiny in which it not only
goes on living Eternally, but is to be a help to us all and to President
Lincoln himself in the future. Willie wanted this to happen but wasn’t able to be as
much a success in it as he wanted to be while he was alive. And for it to be part of a destiny and a future for us, and for President Lincoln, his father to be to a help to him in his destiny. But, this I am pretty sure was and also is the prayer of the President himself and God for his son.
This book has a lot of
“vivid” details about this, supplied by Mr. Saunders imagination but it is also
very richly historically researched in order to supply grounding of it in
historical facts. I am sure it took a lot of extra critical thought, as well as
historical truth and a vivid imagination in order to write. So, if you have time
to think about it and study it for a while, for reasons I do not totally
understand I would recommend it as a
“good” read.
“good” read.
